.TH byobu-enable-shell-integration 1 "15 August 2026" byobu "byobu" .SH NAME byobu-enable-shell-integration, byobu-disable-shell-integration \- add and remove OSC 133 semantic-prompt markers and OSC 8 hyperlink support in your shell configuration .SH SYNOPSIS \fBbyobu-enable-shell-integration\fP .TP \fBbyobu-disable-shell-integration\fP .SH DESCRIPTION Byobu can emit OSC 133 semantic-prompt markers: escape sequences marking where a prompt starts, where a prompt ends and command input begins, where a command's output starts, and where a command finishes (with its exit code). This is the same protocol iTerm2, Kitty, Ghostty, VS Code, and Warp already use for jump-to-previous-prompt navigation and command-output selection; any terminal or tool that understands OSC 133 can locate prompts and command boundaries precisely instead of guessing from rendered text. This same toggle also aliases \fBls\fP to pass \fB\-\-hyperlink=auto\fP, so file names it prints become OSC 8 hyperlinks \(em which Trustmux's own PWA, and any other OSC-8-aware terminal, render as clickable. Bundled into this one on/off switch for now rather than a separate opt-in. The alias is skipped if \fBls\fP is already aliased (your own alias is left alone), or if the installed \fBls\fP doesn't understand \fB\-\-hyperlink\fP (GNU coreutils 9.4 or later; not BSD/macOS \fBls\fP, and not older coreutils). This is off by default. \fBbyobu-enable-shell-integration\fP adds one line to \fI~/.bashrc\fP (for bash) or \fI~/.zshrc\fP (for zsh), sourcing the marker-emitting and hyperlink-alias logic. It layers onto whatever prompt you already have \(em byobu's own colorized prompt from \fBbyobu-enable-prompt\fP(1), a framework like oh-my-zsh or starship, or a plain unconfigured prompt \(em rather than replacing it. You can safely remove the line from your shell configuration file yourself; it ends in \fB#byobu-shell-integration#\fP. \fBbyobu-disable-shell-integration\fP removes that line. Only bash and zsh are supported. Running \fBbyobu-enable-shell-integration\fP under any other shell prints an error and does nothing. .SH SEE ALSO .PD 0 .TP \fBbash\fP(1), \fBzsh\fP(1), \fBbyobu-enable-prompt\fP(1) .TP \fIhttps://byobu.org\fP .PD .SH AUTHOR This manpage and the utility were written by Dustin Kirkland for Ubuntu systems (but may be used by others).
