# [NAME](#NAME)

gnutls\_cipher\_encrypt2 - API function

# [SYNOPSIS](#SYNOPSIS)

**#include <gnutls/crypto.h>**

**int gnutls\_cipher\_encrypt2(gnutls\_cipher\_hd\_t handle, const void * ptext, size\_t ptext\_len, void * ctext, size\_t ctext\_len);**

# [ARGUMENTS](#ARGUMENTS)

[gnutls\_cipher\_hd\_t handle](#gnutls_cipher_hd_t)

is a **gnutls\_cipher\_hd\_t** type

[const void * ptext](#const)

the data to encrypt

[size\_t ptext\_len](#size_t)

the length of data to encrypt

[void * ctext](#void)

the encrypted data

[size\_t ctext\_len](#size_t~2)

the available length for encrypted data

# [DESCRIPTION](#DESCRIPTION)

This function will encrypt the given data using the algorithm specified by the context. For block ciphers the *ptext\_len* must be a multiple of the block size. For the supported ciphers the encrypted data length will equal the plaintext size.

# [RETURNS](#RETURNS)

Zero or a negative error code on error.

# [SINCE](#SINCE)

2.12.0
