# [NAME](#NAME)

gnutls\_priority\_set\_direct - API function

# [SYNOPSIS](#SYNOPSIS)

**#include <gnutls/gnutls.h>**

**int gnutls\_priority\_set\_direct(gnutls\_session\_t session, const char * priorities, const char \** err\_pos);**

# [ARGUMENTS](#ARGUMENTS)

[gnutls\_session\_t session](#gnutls_session_t)

is a **gnutls\_session\_t** type.

[const char * priorities](#const)

is a string describing priorities

[const char \** err\_pos](#const~2)

In case of an error this will have the position in the string the error occurred

# [DESCRIPTION](#DESCRIPTION)

Sets the priorities to use on the ciphers, key exchange methods, and macs. This function avoids keeping a priority cache and is used to directly set string priorities to a TLS session. For documentation check the **gnutls\_priority\_init()**.

To use a reasonable default, consider using **gnutls\_set\_default\_priority()**, or **gnutls\_set\_default\_priority\_append()** instead of this function.

# [RETURNS](#RETURNS)

On syntax error **GNUTLS\_E\_INVALID\_REQUEST** is returned, **GNUTLS\_E\_SUCCESS** on success, or an error code.
