**int gnutls\_pubkey\_get\_pk\_algorithm(gnutls\_pubkey\_t key, unsigned int * bits);**

# [ARGUMENTS](#ARGUMENTS)

[gnutls\_pubkey\_t key](#gnutls_pubkey_t)

should contain a **gnutls\_pubkey\_t** type

[unsigned int * bits](#unsigned)

If set will return the number of bits of the parameters (may be NULL)

# [DESCRIPTION](#DESCRIPTION)

This function will return the public key algorithm of a public key and if possible will return a number of bits that indicates the security parameter of the key.

# [RETURNS](#RETURNS)

a member of the **gnutls\_pk\_algorithm\_t** enumeration on success, or a negative error code on error.
