**int gnutls\_privkey\_derive\_secret(gnutls\_privkey\_t privkey, gnutls\_pubkey\_t pubkey, const gnutls\_datum\_t * nonce, gnutls\_datum\_t * secret, unsigned int flags);**

[gnutls\_privkey\_t privkey](#gnutls_privkey_t)

a private key of type **gnutls\_privkey\_t**

[gnutls\_pubkey\_t pubkey](#gnutls_pubkey_t)

a public key of type **gnutls\_pubkey\_t**

[const gnutls\_datum\_t * nonce](#const)

an optional nonce value

[gnutls\_datum\_t * secret](#gnutls_datum_t)

where shared secret will be stored

[unsigned int flags](#unsigned)

must be zero

# [DESCRIPTION](#DESCRIPTION)

This function will calculate a shared secret from our *privkey* and peer's *pubkey* . The result will be stored in *secret* , whose data member should be freed after use using **gnutls\_free()**. *privkey* and  
*pubkey* must be backed by the X.509 keys.

# [RETURNS](#RETURNS)

On success, **GNUTLS\_E\_SUCCESS** (0) is returned, otherwise a negative error value.
